To reduce single use plastic waste by popularising the practice of Bring Your Own Containers
To reduce single use plastic waste by popularising the practice of Bring Your Own Containers
We strive to:
- Remove some of the fear and anxiety around reusing containers and normalise the practice of Bring Your Own Containers (BYOC).
- Promote and support businesses who welcome BYOC (See FACTS & ADVICE and MAP).
- Help customers shop waste free (See FACTS & ADVICE and MAP) and encourage their favourite businesses to take the BYOC PLEDGE

BYO Containers is a grass roots movement of everyday citizens who seek to reduce single use plastic waste by popularising the Zero Waste practice of BYO containers to food vendors. All food stores may find the information on this website useful, however it has been written particularly with Victorian based butchers, fishmongers, poulterers and delicatessens in mind.
The downturn of the foreign waste export industry at the beginning of 2018 has resulted in a recycling crisis across Australia, shining a light on the critical issue of plastic waste and the urgent need to rethink our wasteful habits, including how we purchase our food. With around 300 million tonnes of new plastic waste being created every year[i] and around 8 million tonnes ending up in our waterways [ii], reducing plastic waste is a growing necessity for everyone.
Help us spread the word and put a lid on plastic waste by signing up your local stores to the BYO Containers PLEDGE!
